About
Lloyd Kelly
Born: Dec. 1, 1946, New Orleans
Lloyd Kelly is a Contemporary Realist noted for his use of “Asymmetrical Hidden Balance” utilizing color, line, texture and composition in an abstract and conceptual manner. His use of traditional and conventional images and motifs make his work accessible and familiar. Actually, the familiar subject matter is a “Trojan Horse”. The paintings are not about depiction. Rather they are about emotions, concepts and experiences, which subconsciously and consciously surface. Utilizing under-painted opposites of the color wheel, the paintings attract, repel, create tension, and come to a resolution through visual dialogue and interaction with the viewer. Achieving hidden asymmetrical balance is demanding technically and intellectually, yet the result is fresh and seems effortless. Although the artist places elements essentially in balance, there is always something slightly inexact or peculiar, which creates a strange unidentifiable unique beauty.
